1. Special Education Teacher - All teacher positions are filled at this time
- Provide educational and professional leadership in the classroom;
- Prepare for daily teaching assignments in such a way that orderly student development and progress is ensured;
- Teach students in a variety of manners which project an image of enthusiasm, motivation and encouragement;
- Facilitate integration opportunities where appropriate with Ramsay Elementary School
- Along with the Program Coordinator, maintain a classroom environment in such a way that promotes a healthy, effective learning environment;
- Makes use of resources and services in the school in order that students fulfill their potential;
- Along with the Program Coordinator, assess the progress of each student;
- Keep up-to-date records of student achievement and reporting to parents. Reporting methods include communication books, phone calls, IPP’s and Final Progress Reports;
- Keep accurate attendance records;
- Maintain and improve professional standards;
- Carry out supervision of students as required to ensure an adequate degree of safety while students are in their care;
- To contribute to and adhere to the treatment philosophy and programs for all students at Janus Academy;
- Make use of services and support in the classroom and in the school in order to follow school routines and procedures;
- Follow all other policies, regulations outlined in the School Act, in the Janus Academy Policy and Procedures manual, and the A.T.A. Code of Ethics and the Standards of Professional Conduct.
- Determining present and future educational needs of the school and developing short and long range plans for meeting those needs;
- Coordinating and integrating educational programs, physical facilities and human resources within the school system;
- Providing leadership and fostering conditions which will insure the improvement of the educational program, the efficient use of resources, and the effective performance of employees;
- Follow all other policies, regulations outlined in the School Act, in the Janus Academy Policy and Procedures manual, and the A.T.A. Code of Ethics and the Standards of Professional Conduct.
- Develop appropriate behavioral intervention plans in conjunction with program coordinator
- Assist and coordinate weekly team meetings within designated classrooms
- Provide ongoing training, support, and feedback to staff in the areas of individual therapy, and behavioral intervention
- Complete therapy and performance evaluations in conjunction with teachers and group instructors for all staff
- Provide mentoring and leadership to staff
- Assist in organizing professional development days
- Attend and participate in strategic planning in collaboration with the Board of Directors

2. Behavioral Therapist/Teacher Assistant - on site
Positions may become available throughout the school year. Interviews for the next school term will begin in April of that year.
Applications are accepted from related disciplines including the social
sciences, rehabilitation, and education.
All applicants need to be enthusiastic, work well in a team atmosphere,
and enjoy working hands on with children. Related experience is an asset.
Each employee is given extensive training.
Under the direction and supervision of the Program/Classroom Coordinator, the functions and duties of Behavioural Therapists at Janus Academy shall be as follows:
- To act professionally and responsibly at all times;
- To assist in the delivery of individualized programs to students through one-to-one and small group instruction;
- Follow program targets developed by the Program Coordinator in an appropriate manner;
- Use appropriate teaching strategies, methods of presentation and techniques to motivate students to meet program plan requirements;
- Maintain accurate records of data and events in the instructional session;
- To attend and participate in classroom/staff meetings
- To oversee key students binder
- To organize, develop and maintain stimuli for key student
- To complete all competency checklist in collaboration with Program Coordinator
- Write in communication books on a daily basis
- To follow morning and after school routines as set out by Room leader/Classroom coordinator
- To assist in the delivery of group instruction and integration;
- To carry out duties assigned to them by the Principal, Program Coordinator and Teacher;
- Make use of services and support in the classroom and in the school in order to follow school routines and procedures;
- To contribute to and adhere to the treatment philosophy and programs for all students at Janus Academy;
- Follow bus/lunchroom cleanup schedules
- Attend and participate in parent/teacher interviews
- To assist students in annual spring and Christmas concerts
- To participate in monthly classroom fieldtrips
- To attend and participate in scheduled supervision meetings with teacher, Group Instructor or Program Coordinator
- To assist with the preparation of classroom materials, classroom clean up and organization
- To supervise lunch and or recess daily
- Complete incident reports as needed

3. Behaviour Support Worker - off site contract position

As a behaviour support worker,in a special education class, the successful candidate for this position will have a passion for working with students with autism who have severe behavioural, communication and cognitive challenges. This role and the program are well supported by a collaborative and caring staff. An interest in working as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team and willingness to learn and apply new skills to change behaviour and facilitate learning are critical to this position.
This position is accountable for:
Assisting school personnel in supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorders whose behaviours are severly interfering with their ability to access learning
Working collaborately with personnel to ensure quality learning opportunities for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders
Major Responsibilities
- Assisting in the delivery of individualized programs to students through one-to-one and small group instruction;
- Supporting students in the replacement of maladaptive behaviours with new functional skills;
- Contributing to the creation and implementation of positive behaviour support and Individual Program Plan (IPP) in collaboration with the program coordinator and classroom teacher;
- Assisting in the delivery of an individualized program using Applied Behaviour Analysis and Verbal Behaviour theory and techniques;
- Following program targets developed by the teacher and program coordinator in an appropriate manner;
- Using appropriate teaching strategies, methods of presentation and techniques to motivate students to meet program plan requirements;
- Facilitating the inclusion of the student into a specialized classroom setting;
- Maintaining accurate records of behavioural and educational data;
- Consulting with school personnel and professionals as required;
- Organizing, developing and maintaining stimuli;
- Assisting with the preparation of classroom materials and organization;
- Attending and participating in scheduled supervision meetings with teacher and/or program coordinator;
- Following bus and lunchroom schedules;
- Participating in regular off campus outings;
- Performing other related responsibilities as assigned.
